4: Twitter Tools

There are thousands of tools out there and I have not trawled through them all, there are always new ones coming out…

Absolutely essential to everyone’s Twitter life is Tweetdeck. Available from Tweetdeck.com, Tweetdeck is something I consider an absolute must have. There are alternatives, but this one works cross platform, and it works really well.

Essentially you can set up columns to suit your preferences and view them all at once across your screen, which is why it is called Tweetdeck. Tweetdeck presents a deck of tweets. You can set up multiple columns for each Twitter account you have. This enables you to view multiple Twitter accounts simultaneously. You can set up columns that simply search continuously for key words that you want to keep an eye on.

Simple to download, simple to set up, a snap to use. This scores 8 out of 8. There are two more features, as well as synching Twitter accounts and holding continous searches you can also tweet from it and it integrate with Facebook.

Watch this space, I think we might see that Tweetdeck may be for more that just Twitter users and may yet transform into a wider Social Media Deck. That would be fun. I like Tweetdeck, can you tell?

I recently discovered Tweetchat, seems the URL was registerred just last November and that the owner lives in my favourite place – Texas, where I will be a week from now. Indeed I heard of Tweetchat from a Texan, Carrie Wilkerson.

Carrie is ‘The Barefoot Executive’ mum of four CEO who runs her very own events and training academy. She was able to talk in realtime and respond to listeners questions whilst being half way round the globe from me. Go girl! It was fun, engaging and powerful.

Here is what Tweetchat says of itself: TweetChat helps put your blinders on to the Twitter-sphere while you monitor and chat about one topic. Choosing a hashtag directs you to a TweetChat room. Converse in real-time. Each tweet automatically gets the hashtag added and the room auto-updates. You can use the “User Control” area to feature people you like or to block spammers. “Smart pausing” has been added so when you scroll down the page, it will not refresh, helping you avoid replying to the wrong person. This is really useful if you are live and I experienced it when listening in to a live event with Carrie.

I am now a convert!
