5: The Business Development technique

It is great to have followers and there are a number of great ways to bring them in, there are some good reasons why you want them too.

At the very least a good number of followers shows social proof – lots of followers – must be worth following, must have something good to say, are committed to Twitter.

Similar to a video on YouTube, 6 viewings, potentially not very popular, 150 viewings, ok, must be niche, but good, 30,000,000 wowee that has to be viral.

In both cases you get to see numbers and they provide some insight that you can use to rank your choice as to which to view, given the choice.

Numbers give you a glimpse as to the account or the videos popularity and can help influence whether or not you follow them. From a business development, bank account building perspective it is nice to know and see that the promotional process, engagement potential is growing and that there is a good number of people who have taken the time to sign up or view.

What you need to do is to get all those people who follow you, who view your video to sign up to you. Now this is perhaps not as tricky as it might seem. Just about all social media enables you to include a link in your messages or in the description of your video.

In the case of YouTube, you should precede your description with a complete url like: http://www.tweetmaxi.com so that people can click on it.

In the case of Twitter you would send a tweet similar to this:
@weboptimiser Exclusive fast paced Twitter traffic Webinar shows you easy ways to promote your business this Tuesday http://bit.ly/Cxzmb

Try it, we probably have a webinar coming up one Tuesday soon. Whilst you are on the page, skim to the bottom and sign up.

You have then gone through the process that is the big ‘trick’. What we just did is we persuaded the reader to click on the link in return for a value opportunity to attend a webinar. It is a natural expectation to submit your email address in order to attend, as you will need to be sent the details.

Now that email address is on your list and with in reason, you can send them further emails, that may result in sales. Your Webinar may result in sales. Either way, you now know precisely who is interested to come to your event and you can give them the information that they need.

Now clearly, any email you send must provide the opportunity to opt out. Some will and that is OK. Some people change their mind, others discover that they already have your areas covered there are all sorts of reasons why people may opt-out.

The bottom line, is that although the technique has changed to suit the media, the opt-in process (I own opt-in.co.uk check it out) works on Social Media as well as SEO and Pay Per Click.
